2015 Honda FIT
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Is a mobile locksmith actually cheaper than going to the Honda dealer for this?

On Hondas, almost always yes. Dealers charge separately for the fob, the cut, and the programming labor, and those three lines together add up fast. A mobile locksmith wraps it into one visit with no shop overhead. Most Honda owners who've done the comparison end up saving a meaningful amount going the mobile route.

Q: Does your price include cutting and programming, or are those extra?

Everything is included. The fob, the emergency blade cut to your vehicle, enrolling the key to the immobilizer, and a full function test before I leave. No separate cutting fee, no programming labor line, no surprises. Dealers often split these into three or four charges, and the programming labor alone can be a significant portion of the total. With us it's one price, one visit, done at your location.

Q: My 2015 Fit EX shows a key-not-detected warning but the fob battery is new. What's going on?

This comes up a lot on the EX and EX-L smart key setup. A fresh battery doesn't always mean the fob is communicating properly. A few things to check first: make sure the new CR2032 is seated flat and the contacts aren't bent from the swap. Some owners also find the fob shell cracked or a clip broken, which lets the battery shift just enough to lose contact under vibration.

Q: I only have one key for my 2015 Fit EX. Should I get a spare made now or wait until something goes wrong?

Get the spare now. All-keys-lost on a smart key vehicle costs more and takes longer than adding a second key while you still have a working one. When you have a working fob in hand, the process is faster and simpler. When you don't, the immobilizer has to be fully reset before anything new can be enrolled, and that adds time and complexity to the job. One working key is one bad day away from an all-keys-lost situation.

2015 Honda FIT Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a security guard in the Historic District of Oxnard. Late shift, worked overnight, came home around 11 and his 2015 Fit EX just sat there.

The fob wouldn't wake the car, the push-button start wouldn't respond, and the dash was throwing a key-not-detected warning every time he held the fob near the start button. He figured a tow was the next step and started mentally rearranging his whole week around not having a car.

I told him to stay put. I'd come to him.

When I got there, the fob battery was dead-flat, but swapping the CR2032 alone didn't fix it. The car had dropped the key from memory entirely, which happens when a smart key fob goes completely dark for long enough. I connected to the OBD port, cleared the old key data from the immobilizer, and enrolled a new fob right there in his garage. Tested every button, walked the door handles, confirmed push-button start was seeing the fob correctly. The whole job was done before midnight.

He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer would have quoted him once you factor in their programming labor on top of the key itself. And he didn't lose a single workday waiting for a dealer appointment.

Honda FIT Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How much does a 2015 Honda FIT smart key replacement cost?▼

Call us for the exact number, but you'll pay way less than the dealer route. Honda dealers typically break the bill into separate line items: the fob itself, a cutting fee for the emergency blade, and a programming labor charge that can run steep on its own. By the time it's all added up, dealer pricing on a Honda smart key job is a significant hit.
