Sunday morning near the Ojai Valley Inn. A yoga studio owner with a 2006 Infiniti FX35 came out after teaching her first class and the smart key was completely dead. No button response, no passive unlock when she grabbed the door handle, and the push-to-start wouldn't even wake up the dash. The Infiniti dealer was closed until Monday. Got to her lot in about 40 minutes. Cracked open the CWTWBU619 fob on the hood so she could see. The CR2025 was toast, voltage way below threshold. But a fresh battery alone didn't bring it back. The key's transponder signal had dropped out of sync with her BCM, which happens when an intelligent key sits dead long enough for the NATS5 handshake to go stale.
I pulled the 4-digit PIN from her IMMO data through OBD, registered a new intelligent key to her system, and confirmed the old fob was erased so it couldn't start anything. Tested lock, unlock, trunk release, passive entry on both front doors, and push-to-start from cold. Then I walked across the lot to check range.
She got home and back before her second class. No Monday dealer trip, no loaner car, no week-long wait for a VIN-ordered fob.
