Got a call from a woman near the Port Hueneme Historical Society Museum on a weekday evening. She had a 1997 Infiniti G20, a baby in the car seat, and a door that would not open. She had stepped away for maybe thirty seconds to return a cart. Came back, the key turned in the lock but felt wrong, and the door stayed shut. The lock cylinder had jammed. She could see her kid through the window.

When I got there, I opened the door first. She grabbed the baby out before I even set my bag down. After that I looked at the lock. The wafers inside the driver cylinder were worn down, which is common on these P10-chassis G20s after almost three decades. The key still started the car fine because the NATS transponder chip was reading and the ignition cylinder was in better shape.
I picked and decoded the lock, then cut her a fresh key on my Triton Plus right there on the sidewalk. Transferred the transponder data using my VVDI2 so the new key matched the immobilizer without needing a full reprogram at the BCM.
She drove home with the baby asleep in the back. Some jobs just land different.
