2008 Infiniti G37
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: What exactly is a smart key and how does the 2008 G37 use it?

The Intelligent Key on the 2008 G37 is a proximity-style fob. When it is near the car, the vehicle's antennas detect it passively, which is what lets you lock and unlock by touching the door handle. There is also a transponder inside that the immobilizer reads to authorize starting. The fob has four buttons for lock, unlock, and additional functions. There is a mechanical emergency blade folded inside for situations where the fob is not communicating.

Q: My G37 is showing a key-not-detected warning. What should I check first?

Start with the CR2032 battery in the fob. Low battery is the most common cause of intermittent key-not-detected warnings on these, and a lot of owners wait way too long to change it. Put a fresh one in and test every function. If the battery is fine and it still will not respond, try pressing the fob body directly against the start button while keeping your foot on the brake.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2008 G37. Can I program it myself?

No. The 2008 G37 Intelligent Key does not have an owner-accessible self-programming sequence. There is no button combination, no ignition cycling trick that will register a new fob to this car. Programming requires a diagnostic tool that can communicate with the vehicle's immobilizer and write the new key into memory. If you bought a fob online, it still needs someone with the right equipment to pair it.

Q: I lost both keys to my 2008 G37. Is an all-keys-lost situation something you can handle?

Yes. All-keys-lost on the 2008 G37 is a job I can do on site. It takes longer than adding a spare because the immobilizer memory has to be cleared and rebuilt from scratch, and there is a timed sequence built into the process. I back up the immobilizer data first, then register the new fob or fobs, and cut the emergency blade.

2008 Infiniti G37 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy over near Camarillo Springs called me on a Tuesday morning. He said he had been doing his homework. Pulled up my BSIS license number, read through the reviews, and wanted to know if I could come to him. He was an oral surgeon, and his schedule does not leave room for sitting at a dealership for half a day.

He had a 2008 Infiniti G37 and wanted a spare Intelligent Key programmed before he ever found himself stranded. Smart thinking, honestly. Most people call after the problem.

When I got there, I backed up the immobilizer data before touching anything. That is just how I work. You do not start adding keys to a system without knowing what is already in there. His original fob was healthy, the car was in good shape, and there were no stored faults complicating the job.

I programmed the new four-button fob on site, confirmed all the buttons were working, and verified the emergency blade was cut correctly. The whole thing was done in his parking lot while he finished up between patients.

He had already called the dealer before reaching out to me. They wanted him to drop the car off and quoted him a price that made the decision pretty easy. He paid a fraction of that. Took maybe forty-five minutes from the time I pulled up.

Infiniti G37 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

My key fob shell is cracking. Can you swap it without reprogramming the whole thing?▼

Yes, and it is one of the more common calls I get on these. The fob body on the 2008 G37 Intelligent Key is known for developing cracks around the key ring area and near where the emergency blade tucks in. The internal circuit board can be transferred into a new shell as long as nothing on the board is damaged. If the electronics move over intact, no reprogramming is needed.
