2009 Infiniti G37
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Do I really have to tow my G37 to the dealer if I have no working key?

No. Towing to the dealer is their solution, not the only one. A mobile locksmith with the right equipment comes to the car. The immobilizer reset and key registration happen through the OBD port, so the car doesn't need to move. Dealers also typically require ordering the fob by VIN and waiting for it to arrive before they'll even schedule the programming appointment. One visit, at your location, handles the whole thing.

Q: How long does an all-keys-lost job take on a 2009 G37?

Figure 45 to 75 minutes on site. That covers security access, immobilizer registration, cutting the insert blade, programming the new fob, and testing everything before I leave. The 2009 G37 is a well-documented platform for this procedure, so there are no surprises in the process. Compare that to the dealer route: order the key by VIN, wait for delivery, schedule a separate programming appointment. We do it in one trip.

Q: The start button on my G37 just says "No Key Detected" but the fob is right there. What's going on?

Nine times out of ten on a 2009 G37, that warning with the fob in hand points to a weak CR2032 before anything else. These fobs are sensitive to battery voltage, and a cell that tests "okay" on a basic meter can still be too low to communicate reliably with the vehicle. Try holding the fob flat against the start button and pressing. If the car starts that way, the battery is the answer.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my G37. Can I program it myself or do I need someone with equipment?

You need equipment. The 2009 G37 smart key system does not have a DIY relearn sequence. There's no ignition cycling trick or button combination that registers a new fob. Programming requires a diagnostic tool that communicates with the immobilizer through the OBD port. The fob you bought online is fine to use as the hardware, but it still needs to be registered to your specific vehicle before it will do anything.

2009 Infiniti G37 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman out in Las Posas Estates called me on a Tuesday morning. She had a 2009 Infiniti G37, one working fob, and a busy schedule. She wanted a spare cut and programmed before she left town that weekend. Simple job on paper.

What she led with surprised me a little. Before she said anything about the key, she asked if I was licensed and how I handled the security side of Infiniti programming. She'd done her homework. She knew there were people running around with generic tools who could lock up a car's immobilizer if something went wrong mid-procedure. She wanted to know she wasn't handing her G37 to someone learning on the fly.

I told her I carry my California locksmith license, active liability coverage, and the diagnostic equipment that talks to Infiniti's security system the right way through the OBD port. She'd already looked up the license number before I arrived.

When I got there, I connected to the OBD port, ran through the security access sequence to read the existing key data, and registered the new fob alongside her original. Then I cut the emergency insert blade to match the vehicle and tested every button in the parking area while she watched. Lock, unlock, the full run. The whole thing took under an hour on her driveway.

She mentioned the dealer had given her a number that made her wince. What she paid me was a good chunk less than that, and she didn't have to leave her neighborhood or wait days for a VIN-ordered key to show up.

Infiniti G37 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

I lost all my keys to my 2009 G37. Can you still make one?▼

Yes. All-keys-lost on the 2009 G37 is a standard job. The process involves connecting to the OBD port, accessing the immobilizer data, clearing the existing key registrations, and programming one or more new fobs from scratch. The emergency insert blade gets cut to the vehicle at the same time. The old lost fobs get wiped from the system so they can't start the car if someone finds them.
