Got a text from a guy on Oxnard Boulevard whose 1999 Jaguar XJ had been sitting in a carport for about five months. He had one key left, and it would turn the ignition, crank the engine, but nothing caught. Dash just showed the immobilizer light staying solid instead of going out after the usual bulb check.
Classic ID13 transponder rejection. The KVM lost sync with the chip.

I drove out with my diagnostic setup and a blank tibbe key with an ID13 chip ready to go. Connected to the KVM through the OBD port, read the module, confirmed it still had his original key ID stored but the sync had drifted after the long sit. Re-registered his existing key, cut a spare on site as a backup, and programmed that second ID13 into the KVM while I was in there.
The engine fired on the first turn. He stood there watching the immobilizer light blink out the way it was supposed to and just nodded, like he had been waiting five months for that one small thing.
Whole job happened in that carport. No tow, no appointment, no waiting on parts.
