2004 Jaguar XJ Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already on the 101 heading toward Carpinteria State Beach on a different errand when the call came in. A guy at a vacation rental near the beach had been parked for three days and when he went to leave, nothing.

The remote flip key wouldn't unlock the doors, the fob felt totally dead, and when he folded the blade out and tried the lock cylinder, it turned but the car didn't respond the way it should.

He was calm about it, which I appreciated. Some people are already in crisis mode before you pick up.

I got there in under twenty minutes. The CR2032 was genuinely dead, and I mean flat zero. Three days at the beach, salty air, and the fob had probably been marginal before the trip. Replaced the battery on the spot. The doors responded. Good sign.

But when he started it, it ran for about two seconds and quit. That's the immobilizer doing its job after a key that's been off the radar. The car remembered the key was registered, but the extended dead-battery window had caused a dropout in how the system was reading it.

I connected through the OBD port, pulled up the key module, and ran a re-registration with his existing fob present. No new key needed. Just getting the vehicle and the key talking to each other again properly.

He tested it himself, drove it to the end of the block and back. Said he'd been putting off getting a spare cut for two years. We made one while I was already there.

The dealer would have meant a flatbed to a service center and probably a few days waiting for an appointment. He had somewhere to be that afternoon.
