A British car shop off Linden Avenue in Carpinteria had a customer's 2009 Jaguar XJ up on the lift, mid-repair, and the only smart key had gone missing somewhere in the shop. The customer was picking up that afternoon.
The shop owner called me around noon. He sounded like he had already torn the place apart looking. Toolboxes, drain pans, behind the alignment rack. Gone.
I got there and pulled the immobilizer PIN through the OBD port using my VVDI2. The X358 XJ shares its security architecture with the late Ford-era Jaguars, so the PIN read was clean and fast. From there I generated a new Hitag2 transponder profile, programmed the proximity and push-to-start functions on a fresh KR55WK49244 fob, and cut the HU101 emergency blade on site.
The whole thing took about 30 minutes. I walked the key through every function while the car was still on the lift: passive entry on all four doors, trunk release, lock and unlock buttons, push-to-start, and the emergency blade in the driver door. Everything answered.
The shop finished its repair. The customer picked up on time with a working key and never knew there had been a problem. The shop owner just leaned on the fender and said, "That was close."
A dealer would have needed days just to schedule the appointment, plus a tow to get it there.
