Got a call at 6:45 in the morning from a guy near Santa Barbara City College. He worked in private aviation, had a client landing in two hours, and his 2011 XJ was sitting in a lot refusing to start. The dash had thrown "SMART KEY NOT DETECTED" and that was it. Dead in the water.
He had already tried the emergency blade. No luck. The HU101 driver's door cylinder was seized from years of never being touched. That is the norm on these cars. Nobody uses the mechanical key until the day they need it.
I was there in about 25 minutes. Used my HU101 Lishi to pick and decode the frozen lock cylinder, got inside, and plugged into the OBD port under the dash. His KOBJTF10A fob had a dead CR2032, but the bigger problem was the KVM had dropped the key's registration entirely. That happens on X351s when the fob battery dies slowly over weeks. The module just stops seeing it.
Swapped the battery, ran the re-registration procedure through the diagnostic port, and walked every function. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic, all five buttons, plus both front door handle sensors and push-button start from the driver's seat.
He pulled out of that lot at 7:50. No tow truck, no dealer wait, no missed meeting. A fraction of what the dealer route would have cost with the tow on top.
