2003 Lincoln Town Car Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A rideshare driver called me from a tire shop off Wooley Road, right on the edge of Oxnard Shores. He'd already had a bad experience.
Some outfit he found through a cheap Google ad had come out, collected a lot of money, and left him with a key that started the car maybe half the time. The theft light would stay on after startup, and twice the car just refused to turn over entirely. He didn't know if the key was the problem or if something in the ignition system got messed with.
He asked me straight out how to verify I was licensed before I drove over. I gave him my BSIS license number right there on the phone and told him to pull it up on the state website while we were talking. He did. We kept talking while he confirmed it.
When I got there, the situation was exactly what I expected. The previous work had only partially paired the key. The transponder side of the enrollment hadn't completed cleanly, which is why the theft light was misbehaving. I connected my programmer at the OBD port, cleared the incomplete registration, and ran a proper full enrollment.
After that, the theft light did what it's supposed to do: flashed a few times on startup, then went dark. He started it three times in a row just to watch it. I understood the impulse. When something's been unreliable long enough, you need to see it work more than once before you trust it.
He said the dealer quote he'd gotten earlier was a number that made him try the cheap option in the first place. He saved a good chunk coming to me, and this time the job was actually done.
