2006 Lincoln Town Car Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A night janitor called me from a parking garage in Oxnard, over in the College Estates area, around 10:30 at night. His only key to his 2006 Town Car was gone. Just gone. He had already checked every pocket twice, retraced his route through two floors of the building, and come up empty.
He was about to call a tow truck just to get the car somewhere safe overnight. He didn't have his registration handy and had no idea what a VIN was.
I walked him through it on the phone. Told him to look at the base of the windshield on the driver's side. He found the 17-character VIN. Then I had him check his insurance app for his registration info. It was right there.
With the VIN I already knew his key setup before I left: PATS second-gen, 80-bit 4D-63 chip, H75 keyway, CWTWB1U793 remote head. I prepped the right blank and chip on the way.
Under the garage lights I decoded his door lock, cut the blade, then ran all-keys-lost through OBD on my IM608. The procedure erases old key data from the instrument cluster and writes fresh transponder IDs. I programmed two new remote head keys, tested the remote lock, unlock, and trunk on both, and confirmed the engine cranked clean with no theft light.
He was calm by then. Drove home that night. The VIN is the single most useful piece of information you can give me when you call.
