A retired bus driver in Camarillo called me from the dialysis center off Las Posas Road. He goes three times a week and his schedule is not flexible. His aide was out that day, getting to a dealer across town was not a realistic option, and his fob had stopped triggering the doors reliably. He was locking up manually and worrying about whether the remote would just quit entirely.
I pulled into the parking lot while he was still in treatment. His key blade was fine, ignition worked, no issues there. The fob was the problem. Popped it open on my tailgate, seated a fresh CR2025 correctly against the contacts, and verified the fit before closing it back up.
Then I walked every button. Doors, each one individually. The other two functions on the fob. Range check from across the parking lane. Everything came back clean.
He was still inside when I finished. I waited by the car so he would not come out to an empty lot wondering if it was fixed. When he walked out and the door unlocked before he reached the handle, he just nodded and said "good." That was enough.
Dealer was an appointment, a tow or a ride, and probably the next available slot. We handled it in the parking lot where his car already was.
