That last one is a real scenario. A farm manager working an orchard property outside Camarillo texted me when his 2012 Mazda 5 fob went completely unresponsive. When I got there I used a Lishi pick to decode the lock and cut a working blade on site. Then I went through the OBD port with my programmer to back up the existing keyless module data and enroll the replacement fob. Four buttons, the correct battery type already installed, verified range from all four corners of the van before I called it done.
His car started on that gravel road between the trees.
The dealer would have needed a tow first, which no flatbed was reaching easily out there, then an appointment, then parts, then time in queue. He got it handled the same afternoon, out there where the car actually was.
