A farm manager out past Spanish Hills neighborhood in Camarillo needed exactly that. He was a good 25 minutes from town when his 2012 Mazda 5 smart key went completely dead. First thing I did was back up the keyless module data with my ACDP. Then I decoded his door lock with my Lishi MAZ24, cut a fresh emergency blade, and programmed the new WAZX1T763SKE11A04 fob through the OBD port. The Mitsubishi-based immobilizer in these has a timed reset cycle, so there was a short wait built into the procedure. We stood there watching the hills while it counted down.
His car started on that gravel road. He looked at the key like he did not trust it yet and turned it off and on again just to be sure.
A dealer would have meant a tow from a spot no flatbed was reaching easily, then days waiting for parts and an appointment. He got it done on site for a fraction of that.
