Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2015 Mazda 5 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A store manager over near Newbury Park called me on a Tuesday midmorning. She had a customer waiting on a furniture piece and her 2015 Mazda 5 was not cooperating.

She had walked out of the thrift store, fob in hand, and nothing happened. No door unlock. She got in using the mechanical emergency blade tucked inside the fob, which she did not even know was there until I told her over the phone. Once inside, the push-to-start just sat there. Key warning on the dash, engine not starting.

I got there, pulled out the CR2025, and it was shot. But here's the thing: the battery was not the only issue. The contact plate inside the fob had a slight bend from the way the fob had been pried open at some point before she owned the car. The battery was making inconsistent contact, which is why the range had been getting weird for weeks before it finally quit entirely.

Fresh CR2025, straightened the contact, seated it right. I walked every button, tested the door handles, confirmed the start system was seeing the fob cleanly. Total time on site was under twenty-five minutes.

She texted me later that the customer had waited, the furniture sold, and the car has been working fine since. The dealer would have taken days just to get her in. She needed it fixed in an hour, and that's what she got.
