2010 Mazda RX-8 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked on a side street off Victoria Estates when the owner walked out to meet me. He had the fob in his hand already, turning it over like he was expecting to find something wrong with it just by looking.
He'd called the Mazda dealer first. They gave him a itemized quote: the fob itself, a cutting charge, a programming labor line, and a shop fee. Four separate numbers that added up to a lot more than it needed to be, and they wanted the car dropped off for most of the afternoon.
He asked me twice if my price really covered everything. The fob, the cut, the programming, the drive out. I told him yes, one number, and I showed him the kit before I even touched his car.
I connected to the OBD port and started the enrollment sequence. The RX-8's security system has a mandatory timer built in before it will accept a new key registration. Seven minutes, give or take, and no amount of tool wizardry changes that. I've done enough of these that I just tell owners upfront so nobody's standing there wondering if something went wrong.
When the timer cleared and the system confirmed the new key, he clicked through all four buttons, walked both doors, tested the push-start. Everything live.
He was back inside before his next break ended. One price. Done at the car. The dealer's four-line quote didn't come close.
