Over in the North Ranch neighborhood of Thousand Oaks, a pharmacy tech had the most common Nissan key story there is. Bought her 2010 370Z used with one key. Always meant to get a spare. Never did.
The housing on her KR55WK48903 cracked at the seam, and the emergency blade snapped clean off when she pulled it from her scrub pocket. Two pieces on the pavement. The car sat under her carport doing nothing, just the "No Key Detected" message cycling on the dash.
The chip inside her broken fob was still intact, which changes the whole job. I used my VVDI2 to pull the transponder data from the cracked board rather than running a full all-keys-lost reset through the OBDII port. That skips the NATS6 pin extraction and timed security countdown, which saves real time. I decoded her door lock cylinder, cut two fresh blades, and built two new 4-button Intelligent Key fobs with the cloned chip data in new housings.
I popped the old fob open on the hood and showed her the PCB and the tiny 46 chip sitting there uncracked. She just looked at it like she couldn't believe that little piece was the whole problem.
Forty minutes, zero to two working keys. A full AKL without those broken pieces would have run more, and the dealer route would have been a different conversation entirely. If your fob is cracked, bring every piece.
