2018 Nissan 370z
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How does mobile key replacement actually work for the 370Z?

You call, give me your year, make, model, and VIN. I confirm the correct key for your specific 370Z and give you a price before I leave my van. When I arrive, I decode or cut the key blade, then connect my equipment to your OBD port to register the new fob with the vehicle's immobilizer.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you arrive?

Three things: your vehicle, a valid photo ID, and proof of ownership, usually your registration or title. I pull the VIN from the dash or door jamb to confirm the right key specs on my end. Also bring every key and fob you currently have for the car. Because of the way the 370Z's Intelligent Key system handles registration, all existing fobs get re-enrolled in the same session. Any key not present during that session stops working.

Q: My 370Z fob works at close range but won't unlock the doors from more than a few feet away. Is the key failing?

Usually it's the battery before anything else. The 370Z fob uses a CR2032, and these shells are tight enough that a weak cell shows up as short range long before the fob goes fully dead. Swap in a fresh name-brand CR2032, make sure the contacts are seating flat, and test again from a normal distance. If range is still short after a confirmed good battery, the next thing to check is interference.

Q: Can I buy a replacement fob online and just have you program it?

Yes, as long as the fob matches your vehicle. Bring the fob, I handle the programming. That said, verify the factory FCC ID on the fob matches your original before you buy. The 370Z saw a few different fob versions across its run and not every listing is accurate about compatibility. If you show up with the wrong fob, I can't pair it no matter what equipment I use.

2018 Nissan 370z Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Up near Serra Cross/Grant Park in Ventura, a nursing student called me about her 2018 370Z. Her only Intelligent Key had cracked at the seam, the case was splitting, and the buttons were sitting exposed. She'd already called the dealer first. They told her to tow it in and quoted her a number that made her pause.

She found me instead.

When I got to her apartment breezeway, I decoded the door lock using my Lishi tool for the Nissan keyway, pulled the cut, and had the new key made right there on the hood of her car. The programming session on the 370Z requires registering all fobs in one sequence, so I walked her through making sure she didn't have a spare hiding somewhere. She didn't, so we went straight through with the one.

The whole thing was done in under 40 minutes. She had a working Intelligent Key, tested on every function, before I packed up my bag.

She saved a good chunk compared to the dealer quote, and she never moved the car.

Nissan 370z Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 2018 Nissan 370Z somewhere for a key replacement?▼

No. I come to you. Whether you're parked at your apartment, at work, or somewhere in the Serra Cross/Grant Park area of Ventura, I show up with the key blank, cutting tools, and the programming equipment that talks directly to your vehicle's immobilizer. Nissan dealers typically require the car to be driven in or towed to their service bay so they can connect their diagnostic system.
