2015 Nissan 370z
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Is a mobile locksmith actually cheaper than the Nissan dealer for a smart key?

On Nissans, almost always. Dealers separate out the fob cost, the blade insert, and programming as its own labor charge, sometimes billed as a full diagnostic hour. That structure inflates the total quickly. We carry the same quality fobs and use professional diagnostic equipment that communicates directly with the vehicle's immobilizer, so the work is identical. The difference is overhead. Most 370Z owners save a significant amount coming to us, and we come to you instead of requiring a tow.

Q: Does your price include cutting and programming, or are those separate?

One price, everything in. The fob, cutting the emergency blade to your vehicle, registering the key with the immobilizer, testing proximity detection at both door handles, confirming the push-button start sees the fob, and running all four buttons before I leave. Dealers on Nissan jobs routinely itemize this into three or four separate charges. With us it doesn't work that way.

Q: I have one working key for my 370Z. Should I get a spare made now or wait until it fails?

Get the spare now. Here's the practical reason: if you still have a working key, adding a second one is a faster, simpler job. All-keys-lost, meaning no working fob at all, requires a full key memory reset with a timed sequence built into the procedure. It takes longer and costs more. A lot of 370Z owners wait until they lose the one key they have, then find out the hard way.

Q: The push-button start on my 370Z recognizes the fob sometimes but not others. What causes that?

Intermittent start-button recognition on the 370Z usually points to one of three things: a fob battery that's dropping off gradually rather than dying all at once, a weak main 12-volt battery affecting the antenna circuits, or the fob getting interference from another electronic device nearby. Try the fob with the physical backup: there's an emergency blade in the fob and a way to use it at the door if the keyless system stops responding entirely.

2015 Nissan 370z Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

She was at a valet lot in Ventura celebrating a birthday when her purse got grabbed off the table. Keys, wallet, phone, gone. She borrowed a friend's phone and called the police, then her roommate, then me.

Her 2015 370Z was sitting in that lot with no keys in existence. When her roommate called the dealer, the answer was three to five business days for a fob to be ordered, the car would need to be towed in, and they also recommended a lock inspection since the stolen fob could still access the car. The combined estimate was not a small number.

I got there that night. All-keys-lost after a theft is its own thing. It's not just adding a new fob to the existing list. The whole key memory gets wiped so the stolen fob is permanently dead to that car. New keys get registered from scratch. I connected through the diagnostic port, cleared the old key data, programmed two new fobs, decoded and cut the emergency insert blade for each, and walked every function before I packed up.

She drove home that night. Her roommate had just pulled up when I was finishing the second fob.

The dealer quote would have meant a tow, a multi-day wait, and a number well above what she paid me. The stolen fob will never start that car again. That part mattered most to her.

Nissan 370z Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How much does a 2015 Nissan 370Z key replacement cost?▼

Call us for exact pricing, but what I can tell you is it covers everything: the fob, the emergency insert blade cut to your car, programming, and mobile service to your location in Ventura. Nissan dealers on these typically break it into separate charges for the fob itself, blade cutting, and programming billed as a labor hour, and those line items add up fast.
