2013 Nissan 370z
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How much more does all-keys-lost cost compared to just adding a spare?

More involved, yes, but not impossible. Here's the difference: if you have one working fob, adding a spare is a registration job. The car's existing memory stays intact and we just enroll the new fob alongside the one you have. All-keys-lost means the immobilizer memory gets wiped and rebuilt from zero. It takes longer, it requires the right diagnostic equipment, and it costs more than a simple spare add.

Q: Are aftermarket 370Z fobs worth buying, or should I go OEM?

It depends on what you mean by "worth it. You can find fobs online for the 370Z at a lower upfront price. The problem is that the fob itself is only part of the job. The transponder chip inside still needs to be registered to your specific car's immobilizer no matter where the fob came from. Some aftermarket fobs register without issue. Others have inconsistent internals that cause problems mid-programming or fail earlier than expected.

Q: The door handle touch unlock on my 370Z stopped working but the start button still sees the fob. Is the key going bad?

Probably not the fob. The 370Z Intelligent Key system uses antennas in the door handles to detect the fob when you reach for the handle. If the start button inside the cabin still sees the key just fine, the fob is communicating. Touch unlock failure that's isolated to one handle, or to the outside doors only, usually points to the handle antenna or its wiring, not the fob itself. Clean the handle area and retest.

Q: Can I program a second 370Z Intelligent Key fob myself at home?

No. There is no ignition-turn sequence or button trick for adding a smart key on this car. That type of onboard self-programming only exists on older vehicles with a basic bladed key in an ignition cylinder. The 370Z Intelligent Key system requires professional diagnostic equipment connected through the OBD port to register any fob, whether it's a first key, a spare, or an all-keys-lost reset.

2013 Nissan 370z Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A couple from Conejo Oaks in Thousand Oaks reached out on a Sunday. They had a 2013 370Z and zero working keys.

Not a dead battery situation, not a weak fob. Both fobs were gone, one lost at a track day, one that just disappeared somewhere in the move. The car had been sitting in their driveway for two weeks because they'd been told all-keys-lost on an Intelligent Key car was a dealer job and would take an appointment plus a wait for parts.

When I pulled up, the car looked fine. It always does. That's the thing about a push-button car with no keys. Nothing is visibly wrong. It just doesn't respond to anything.

All-keys-lost on the 370Z is a different job than adding a spare when you still have a working fob. When a working fob is present, adding a second is a registration process. When every key is gone, the immobilizer memory has to be cleared first, then new fobs get enrolled from scratch. Old key data gets wiped so any previously paired fob, wherever it ended up, can no longer start the car. That part matters as much as getting the new key working.

I connected through the OBD port, cleared the existing key memory, and registered a fresh fob to the car. Cut the emergency blade to match the door lock. Walked every function: door handle touch unlock, lock, start, and the remaining buttons. Everything confirmed.

They'd gotten a quote from the dealer that assumed a tow plus parts plus labor. We did it in their driveway in about 45 minutes. They saved a good chunk, and the car was back in their hands the same morning they called.

Nissan 370z Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the most affordable way to replace my 370Z key?▼

Call a mobile locksmith first. The dealer route on an Intelligent Key car like the 370Z involves ordering the fob through Nissan's parts system, scheduling a programming appointment with their CONSULT diagnostic station, and sometimes waiting days for availability. That adds up fast, and the tow if the car won't start is extra on top. With EZ Car Keyz, I come to you in Thousand Oaks, bring the fob, cut the emergency blade, and program it on-site.
