Over in the Lang Ranch neighborhood in Thousand Oaks, a swing shift electrician called me around 10:45 at night. His only smart key for the 370Z had stopped working that afternoon. The car was sitting in the driveway, push-to-start, and it wouldn't recognize the fob at all. Got there just after 11. Connected my Smart Pro to the OBD port under the dash and ran the Nissan Intelligent Key all-keys-lost procedure. On the Z34 platform, that means talking to the BCM, which on these is Continental part number 284B2-1EA7A, walking through the NATS6 handshake, wiping the old key registration, and writing a fresh Hitag2/PCF7952 to the system. Then I cut the emergency insert blade so the mechanical backup matched his doors.
Whole thing took about 35 minutes. He stood there watching from the garage, arms crossed, waiting for something to go wrong. When the engine turned over on the push button, he just kind of uncrossed his arms and stared at the dash for a second.
