Guy over near Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard had picked up a 2009 Scion tC off OfferUp. Clean title, good condition, one key. Seller told him to sort out a spare himself. He assumed a Scion key was going to be on the cheaper side. The dealer fixed that assumption pretty quick.

I met him at his spot near the harbor. The tC is a Toyota-based platform under the skin, so my equipment reads it the same way. I pulled up the immobilizer, registered the new key, cut the blade on my machine to match the original, and synced the remote functions. He watched the whole thing from about three feet away, which I do not mind. Watching it happen once means he understands what he paid for.
Both keys tested out. Remote range was solid, all three buttons responding, blade turned clean.
He left with two working keys for a fraction of what the dealer quoted for one. The part he seemed most relieved about was the spare itself. One key on a vehicle like this and you are one bad day away from an all-keys-lost job, which is a longer, harder process than just adding a second key while the first one still works.
