2014 Scion TC
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: What's the FCC ID for the 2014 Scion tC fob, and why does it matter?

The factory FCC ID on the fob tells us exactly which blank to bring before we leave. Wrong blank means a wasted trip. When you call, read that ID off the back of your existing fob if you still have it, and we confirm stock on the spot. If you've already lost the fob, the dealer part number on your paperwork works just as well to cross-reference the right replacement.

Q: How fast can you get to the Historic District in Oxnard?

Typical arrival in the Historic District runs 15 to 25 minutes from the time you call. We route the closest available tech straight to you. No appointment windows, no "we'll see you Tuesday." If you call now, someone is moving now.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2014 Scion tC. Can I program it myself?

No. The tC smart key system doesn't have a DIY button sequence or an ignition-cycle trick that registers a new fob. Programming requires professional diagnostic equipment connected to the OBD port to pair the fob to the vehicle's security system. That step can't be skipped. If you already bought the fob, that's fine, bring it. We can program a customer-supplied fob as long as it's the correct blank for this vehicle.

Q: My 2014 Scion tC shows a key-not-detected warning but the fob is right there. What's going on?

A few things can cause this. Low battery is the most common, even a cell that's technically not dead can drop below the threshold the system needs. Start there. If a fresh CR1632 doesn't fix it, the next thing to check is whether the fob took any physical damage, a cracked board inside the housing can kill the signal without looking like anything from the outside.

2014 Scion TC Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Over in the Historic District, a college student needed a spare key made for his 2014 Scion tC. His parents had been on him about it for a year. He kept putting it off because getting to the Toyota dealer meant either skipping a class or burning a weekend morning he didn't have, and the nearest one was a solid 30 minutes out.

He texted me the night before. I was at his place before noon, before his class.

The tC uses a smart key setup, so this wasn't a simple cut-and-go. I had to decode the lock for the insert blade, cut a replacement, and run the fob through the diagnostic port to register it to the vehicle. He watched from his front steps, coffee in hand, not really sure what to expect. When I handed him the finished key and walked him through testing the fob buttons and showed him where the emergency blade sits inside the housing, he just nodded like it all made sense.

The part he cared about: he never left his house. The dealer had quoted him significantly more for a single key. He got two keys made, right there in his driveway, and still made his noon class.

What battery does the 2014 Scion tC key fob use?▼

CR1632. That's the one. Not the CR2016, even though it looks similar at the hardware store. The CR1632 is thinner, and if you seat a CR2016 in its place it may not close properly or make clean contact. Every fob we make goes out with a fresh CR1632 already installed.
