2006 Toyota Matrix Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Near Westlake Plaza in Thousand Oaks, a guy in a 2006 Matrix had his key snap right in the ignition. Half the blade stuck deep in the cylinder, the other half in his hand. He had already called someone else who quoted him for a full ignition replacement, drilling included.
I got there and pulled out my TOY43AT Lishi. That tool fits the TOY43 keyway Toyota used on these first-gen Matrix models and can work around a stuck fragment without touching the wafers inside. Slid it in, worked the broken piece free, and the cylinder came out of it looking factory.
Then I decoded the lock right from the wafer positions. Cut a new blade on site and programmed a fresh 4D-67 transponder chip through the OBD port. The Matrix uses Toyota's older immobilizer system, no smart key, no push-to-start, just a standard transponder handshake with the ECU. Registration took a couple of minutes.
His remote was fine the whole time. The GQ43VT14T fob is a standalone RF unit, so snapping the key blade doesn't touch the remote side at all. I handed him a working key, tested the remote range from across the lot, and the ignition turned over clean.
No drill marks. No new cylinder. No scratch on the door. His original lock works with the new key the same as it always did. The other locksmith's plan would have cost him a good chunk more and left him with a replaced ignition he never needed.
