2012 Toyota Matrix
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2012 Toyota Matrix Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

She was at a restaurant near Camarillo Springs when her bag got grabbed off the chair beside her. Keys, wallet, phone, all of it. She borrowed the server's phone, called the police, then her husband, then me.

The 2012 Matrix was sitting in the lot with no working key anywhere. Her husband had already called the dealer. They quoted the job, said the car would need to come in on a flatbed, and gave a three-to-five business day window. The number they threw out was over seven hundred dollars, and that was before the tow.

I got there that evening while she was still waiting on the police report.

All-keys-lost is a different animal than adding a spare. When one key already works, registering a second is a relatively quick add. When every key is gone, I wipe the key memory entirely and start fresh, which means the stolen key becomes useless to the car even if someone finds it. That is the first thing I told her when I walked up, because it was clearly the thing on her mind.

I accessed the immobilizer through the diagnostic port, cleared the old key data, and registered two new remote head keys from scratch. Decoded the door lock, cut both blades on site, tested every button on both fobs, confirmed the engine started clean with each one.

She drove home that night with two working keys. The stolen one is dead to that car. That is not a figure of speech, that is how the system works the moment the memory gets wiped.

The dealer estimate, the flatbed, the week-long wait, none of that happened. She was home before the night was over.
