2010 Toyota Matrix MECHANICAL-KEY Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy out near the Camarillo Springs area. He had a 2010 Toyota Matrix, base model, and every single key was gone. Lost one months ago, kept using the spare, and then the spare fell out of a pocket on a trail somewhere.
No push-to-start on this car. No proximity fob. Just a mechanical key with a 4D-67 transponder chip in the bow. Simple system, but all-keys-lost still means the immobilizer ECU will not talk to anything new unless you clear the old key data first.
I pulled up and connected my programmer through the OBD port, then read the immobilizer module to back up the existing data. On the second-gen Matrix, the immo ECU is the 89780 series box, and it holds the encryption seed for whatever 4D-67 chips were registered. Once I had the backup, I ran the AKL procedure, cleared the old key codes, and wrote a fresh 4D-67 chip to the system.
Cut the key blade to his TOY43 keyway right on site using code pulls from the door lock. Key went in, immobilizer light on the dash flickered and went out, engine fired.
He just stood there nodding for a second. Then he asked if he should get a spare this time. Yeah. Probably.
Whole thing took about 25 minutes in his driveway. No tow, no dealer wait.
