A woman in Old Town Camarillo had her only key to a 2014 Matrix break in two places at once. The plastic housing had been cracking for a while, and the day she forced the door lock in a hurry, the blade sheared off inside the cylinder. She was standing there with the fob body in one hand and half a key still buried in the lock.

She went from zero keys to two in under 45 minutes, parked on the street in Old Town. The dealer quote she had gotten months earlier, back when the housing first started cracking and she thought about getting ahead of it, was enough that she kept putting it off. She stopped putting it off.
