1999 Volkswagen Passat Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A shop teacher from over near Westlake Village called me on a Tuesday morning. He had already done his homework, which I always respect. He told me he had watched a key replacement video online and tracked down my number before he even needed me. When his 1999 Volkswagen Passat flip key finally quit doing anything useful, he knew the call he was making.
His remote had been getting flaky for a while. Range was shrinking, then it stopped locking reliably, and eventually it just sat there doing nothing when he pressed the buttons. The car still started, so he had been living with it and manually locking the doors like it was 1992.
I met him in the parking lot near the car wash off the main drag. Popped the fob, pulled the old CR2032, and the contacts inside were green with corrosion. That alone was telling me a story. Fresh battery, cleaned contacts, tested range. It came back a little but not fully, which told me the fob circuit had seen too many years of a leaky battery against those contacts.
Built a fresh flip key on site, got it registered to the car through the OBD port, and tested every button through three cycles before I handed it over. Lock, unlock, and both of the other buttons, then three cold starts to confirm the transponder side was solid.
He said the dealer had quoted him a number that made him laugh out loud. He wasn't laughing when he called me, but he was by the time I packed up.

“Great service, decent price, even helped with some other issues I had which made it worth it (no one wants to fork over $ for locking their keys in the car). Will definitely call them again if need be.”
“Came in a timely manner , very attentive Definitely the best here in the area would recommend 10/10!”
“Had a great experience! Very prompt and flexible for times available. Came over on Saturday morning and had me a new key fob for my Prius in less than 40 minutes. Worth every penny! Because of the friendly family service. Definitely need to keep him on speed dial! Thank you Timothy!”
