A shop teacher near the Westlake Village area flagged me down at the DIY car wash off Thousand Oaks Boulevard. He already knew my YouTube channel, told me he had watched the Jetta flip key video with his auto shop students. Said he liked that the camera stays on the tools, not on some animation.
His 1999 Passat B5 flip key was falling apart. The 1J0959753F housing had a cracked seam right along the battery door, and the flip blade was loose enough to wobble. Remote would lock the doors sometimes, other times nothing. He had been holding the fob together with a rubber band for about two weeks.
I set up on the hood. Built a fresh NBG8137T flip key with a new ID48 transponder chip inside, cut the HU66 blade to match his locks, then ran the Immo3 adaptation through OBD using the VVDI. The cluster accepted the new key on the first login. I tested all four buttons, locked and unlocked from about forty feet out, and ran three clean start cycles watching the immobilizer light on the dash drop out each time.
He stood there turning the new key over in his hands like he was grading the build quality. Then he said he was going to show it to his class on Monday.
