His 2021 Passat sat locked in the lot. The 561837202J flip key was somewhere in the Pacific. Another locksmith wanted to drill the ignition, talking about cylinder replacement and big numbers. I told him to hang tight.

The tricky part with MQB platform cars isn't the cutting. It's the IMMO5 component protection. I connected through OBD, cleared the protection, and adapted the new key. The system accepted it on the first try, all five buttons working: lock, unlock, trunk, panic, and that little red light that nobody knows what it does.
He tested it three times before he believed it. Started the engine, locked it, unlocked it, popped the trunk. The whole job took maybe 45 minutes in the beach lot.
The other guy's drill-and-replace quote would have hurt. My way kept his car intact and cost him a fraction of that mess.
