2020 Volkswagen Passat Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
She was finishing a bartending shift in Santa Paula, over in the East Area 2 side of town, and her bag was gone. Someone grabbed it while she was closing out tabs. Keys, wallet, phone, the whole thing. She borrowed a coworker's phone, called the police, then her roommate, then me.
Her 2020 Volkswagen Passat was sitting in the lot with zero working keys. The roommate called the dealer on her behalf while I was already on my way. The dealer said they could order a key but it would be three to five business days, required a tow since they needed the car on-site, and the combined estimate was not a number anyone wanted to hear at midnight.
All-keys-lost after a theft is a different job than cutting a spare. When a key walks out with a thief, the first thing I do is wipe the entire key memory so that fob is dead. Even if whoever grabbed her bag figures out what car it goes to and walks up to it, the stolen key will not start the engine. I connected to the immobilizer through the diagnostic port, cleared every stored key ID from the module, and enrolled two fresh fobs from scratch.
I had my blade decoder and cutting equipment in the van. Decoded the lock profile, cut both flip blades on-site, verified the transponder pairing on each one, and ran through lock, unlock, and the remaining buttons on both fobs before I packed up. She had two working keys and the stolen one was permanently dead in the system before her ride even arrived.
She drove home that night. The dealer estimate was going to be a multi-day wait plus a tow, and she walked away paying a fraction of that. That part almost felt like an afterthought compared to just getting her home safe.
