A weekend hiker near the Ojai Trolley route lost his only Passat key somewhere on a trail early one morning. Checked every pocket, retraced his steps, nothing. His 2016 Passat sat in the dirt lot with no way to open it.

I got to the trailhead and started with my HU66 Lishi tool. It picks and decodes the standard VW 6-wafer keyway by reading each wafer position through the driver door lock cylinder. Once I had the bitting, I cut a new 5K0837202AK flip key blade on a portable machine right on the hood.
Then the real work. I connected through OBD and ran the VW all-keys-lost IMMO4 procedure, which wipes previous key registrations from the BCM and writes the new Megamos 48 transponder as the primary key. Synced the remote, too, all four buttons. His old missing key can't start the car or unlock it anymore.
He stood there watching the dirt lot go from "stranded until Monday" to "engine running" in about 45 minutes. Didn't need a flatbed, didn't need a weekday appointment, didn't need the dealer at all.
He drove home that afternoon for a fraction of what the dealer route would have cost once you stacked up the tow, the fob, the programming labor, and the wait.
