A college student meeting someone for a Craigslist sale near Ojai Meadows Preserve had that exact story. She went from zero keys to two in about 40 minutes. The dealer route would have meant towing the car in, waiting days, and paying way more. If your key breaks but you still have the pieces, bring them. The chip data is usually still good.
