Got called out to Ventura River Trail for a 2022 Passat with the classic VW problem: Component Protection lockout after a dead battery jump.
Guy's flip key would start the car fine but the remote did nothing. No lock, no unlock, no trunk, no panic. Just dead buttons. He'd already swapped the CR2032 twice and tried the manual sync procedure he found online. Nothing.
I hooked up VCDS and there it was: "Component Protection active - BCM." The MQB platform locks out remote functions when it detects a power disruption. Cleared the CP flag in adaptation channel 142, then ran the remote learning sequence through address 09. The 561837202J key paired right up.
While I had VCDS open, I checked for TSB 57-21-01 since his was built in early 2022. Sure enough, the BCM software was the old version that causes weak remote range. Noted it for him in case the range bothers him later.
Twenty minutes total. He was amazed that both VW dealers he called wanted the car towed in and quoted him north of 400 just to look at it. They never mentioned Component Protection at all.
