2011 Volvo Xc90 Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over in the Westside neighborhood in Santa Barbara, a guy from the local Rotary club flagged me down about his 2011 Volvo XC90. He had already paid another locksmith for a replacement key, FCC ID LQNP2T-APU, the 5-button remote flip style. The engine would crank every time but the immobilizer killed fuel immediately. The other tech told him his CEM was fried and walked away from the job.
The CEM was fine. What happened was the first locksmith tried an OBD-only program on a system that needs bench access to the CEM for all-keys-lost. Without pulling the secured EEPROM data from the module first, the key registration never actually completed. Half the job, full the price.
I used my HU56 Lishi to verify the blade cut matched his lock. Then I pulled the CEM from behind the glove box, brought it to my bench setup, and read the EEPROM with my IM608. Generated the correct key data from the dump, wrote it back, reinstalled the module, and finished programming through the OBD port. Three consecutive clean starts. I showed him the IM608 screen confirming the key was permanently registered in the CEM.
He had already paid the first locksmith too, so that money was gone. But at least this time the XC90 started and stayed running. He sat in it for a second, just listening to it idle, like he was making sure.
