I got a call from a guy in Royal/Kadota around 10 at night. His 2018 XC90 was sitting in his driveway and the car wouldn't acknowledge his fob at all. Push-button start just sat there. He'd already swapped the CR2032 twice with fresh cells he bought at a gas station. Didn't matter. I connected my diagnostic equipment to the OBD port, worked through the Volvo key learning procedure, and re-enrolled his existing fob. Tested every button, walked both front doors checking handle proximity response, and ran through the start sequence a couple of times to make sure it wasn't intermittent.
The whole job was done in his driveway in under 45 minutes. He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a significant chunk just to get the car looked at, not even for the repair itself.
He didn't need a new fob. He needed the right equipment and someone willing to come out at night.
