Got a call from a guy out near the Oak Park area in Simi Valley. His family was up at a lodge off the main road, 2019 XC90, push-to-start, and not a single key between any of them. Lost somewhere on a hike. No ignition slot on SPA-platform Volvos, so the car just sat there looking expensive and doing nothing.
I drove out with my ACDP bench setup and a battery maintainer. First thing I did was pull the CEM from behind the glove box. On these second-gen XC90s, the CEM holds the encrypted key data tied to the Hitag Pro transponder protocol, and you cannot skip the bench step. I backed up the full EEPROM before writing anything. That is non-negotiable on Volvo CEM work because a bad write can brick the module, and then you are looking at a much bigger problem.
Generated the new key data from the secured dump, wrote the CEM back clean, reinstalled it, and finished pairing the new YGOHUF8423 fob through OBD. Four buttons, CR2032 battery, standard SPA smart key. The CEM accepted it on the first attempt.
He sat in the driver's seat, hit the brake, pressed start, and the T6 lit right up at a mountain lodge with no dealer for miles. His wife just looked at me like I had pulled a rabbit out of a toolbox.
