2007 Cadillac SRX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Can you wipe lost or stolen keys from my 2007 SRX so they no longer start the car?

Yes. The transponder relearn procedure on this generation of GM vehicles clears all previously stored keys from the immobilizer and re-registers only the keys present during the session. After that, any lost or stolen blade keys that were previously programmed are dead. They won't start the car. This is worth doing any time a key goes missing rather than just cutting an extra and hoping for the best.

Q: My 2007 SRX has a separate fob and a blade key. Does the fob do anything for starting the car?

Nothing. On your SRX, the fob handles remote lock and unlock only. What allows the car to start is the transponder inside the key head - a small chip embedded in the plastic housing at the top of the blade. The immobilizer reads that chip at startup. The fob is completely separate from that process. So if your fob battery dies or the fob stops working, you can still drive the car normally with just the blade key.

Q: My 2007 SRX starts and then immediately stalls, or cranks but won't fire. Is this a key or transponder problem?

It can be. On this generation of GM vehicles, a transponder that the immobilizer doesn't recognize will typically allow the ignition to turn but prevent the engine from running, or cause it to stall right after startup. A security warning may appear on the dash. Before assuming the worst, check that you're using the original programmed key and not a copy that was cut but never enrolled.

Q: I bought a replacement key blade online for my 2007 SRX. Can I just get it cut and use it?

Cut yes, use as-is no. The blade can be cut to your vehicle by code or by decoding your existing key, and that part is simple enough. But if the replacement key head contains a transponder chip, it has to be enrolled to your specific car through the OBD port before the immobilizer will accept it. An unprogrammed key won't start the car no matter how accurate the cut is.

2007 Cadillac SRX Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked near the Sunset Hills neighborhood off Thousand Oaks Boulevard when she came out of the pharmacy and just stood by her SRX for a second before walking over to the van.

She said she'd already looked me up. License number, Google listing, the whole thing. Her last guy had shown up in a personal car, handed her a receipt with nothing on it but a total, and was unreachable two weeks later when she had a question. She wasn't doing that again.

She needed a working spare for her 2007 SRX. She still had her original key, so we weren't dealing with all-keys-lost, which kept things cleaner. I cut the new blade to match, confirmed the transponder was reading correctly through the OBD port, ran the relearn, and tested the ignition. Then I got the separate fob synced up and walked every button with her watching.

The whole thing was done before she finished her errands. She asked about the dealer quote she'd gotten. I told her she saved a good chunk. She already knew that. What she really wanted was someone who'd still pick up the phone next week if something felt off.

That's the part that's harder to put on a receipt, but it matters more than the price.

Cadillac SRX Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to handle all-keys-lost on my 2007 Cadillac SRX?▼

Call a mobile locksmith before you call a tow truck. On a 2007 SRX, all-keys-lost means the immobilizer has no active key in memory and nothing will start the car. A dealer visit adds towing costs on top of the key work, and same-day service at a Cadillac dealer is not guaranteed.
