Got a call from a guy at a Cadillac meetup near Gardens of the World in Thousand Oaks. He was already burned once. Some outfit running those $49 Google ads showed up for his 2008 SRX, charged way more than the ad said, and the key only half worked. Doors would lock, but the engine would crank, flash "Service Theft Deterrent System" on the DIC, and die. Classic PK3+ not completing the security handshake.
First thing he asked me on the phone was how he could verify I was legit before spending more money. Fair question.
I gave him my BSIS license number right there, LCO 6792. He pulled up the California Bureau of Security lookup on his phone while we were still talking. I told him I was also NASTF certified, which means I carry access to factory security PIN data that fly-by-night operators cannot get.
When I got to the meetup, I pulled the old key, read the transponder with my Smart Pro, and found the previous locksmith had written an incomplete security code to the chip. The Passlock relearn never finished. I ran the full PK3+ seed-key procedure through the OBDII port, programmed the transponder correctly, and tested the ignition three cold starts in a row.
The whole thing took about 25 minutes. He paid exactly what I quoted on the phone. The dealer had told him two days wait and a good chunk more than what I charged.
