2016 Cadillac SRX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2016 Cadillac SRX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy in the College area of Ventura, standing in a parking structure, after hours. His only fob was gone. He had checked the car floor, his jacket, the elevator, the lobby desk. Nothing. He was about two minutes from calling a tow because he figured the car was stuck there overnight and the dealer was already closed.

First thing I asked him to do was read me the VIN off the base of the windshield, driver's side. He found it. Then I had him pull up his insurance app to confirm registration matched. That was all I needed. With the VIN confirmed, I knew exactly what fob shell, what battery, and what the job would look like before I even loaded the van.

I told him I was coming and to stay with the car.

When I got there he was sitting on a concrete barrier looking at his phone. I set up under the structure lights, which are not ideal but workable if you know what you are doing. Built the new fob, ran the programming sequence through the diagnostic port, verified the vehicle was seeing the new key correctly. Then I walked every function: door handles, lock, unlock, start. All of it.

He drove home that night. He mentioned the dealer had quoted him something painful the last time he needed key work on a previous car. This was a fraction of that, done on site, no tow, no waiting until the service department opened in the morning.

The VIN is always the first thing I ask for. Text it before I arrive. It makes everything faster.
