2005 Chevrolet Cobalt Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy near the Ojai Valley Trail whose 2005 Cobalt had been sitting for a couple of weeks. He said the car wouldn't start and the "SECURITY" light was blinking on the dash. He assumed it was the remote, because it had stopped locking the doors too.
I drove out and took a look. The KOBGT04A remote was dead, CR2032 completely flat. But that is just the lock, unlock, trunk, and remote start buttons. It has nothing to do with starting the car with the key.
The real problem was the PASS-Lock system. The 2005 Cobalt uses a resistor built into the ignition lock cylinder, not a chip in the key. When the cylinder reads the wrong resistance or gets flaky, the Body Control Module (BCM) kills the fuel injectors and you get the blinking security light. GM TSB 02-05-22-002C covers exactly this: intermittent no-start caused by the PASS-Lock sensor drifting. It is one of the most common complaints on Cobalt forums.
I replaced the CR2032 in his remote, paired it with the BCM using my VVDI, and ran the 10-minute PASS-Lock relearn to clear the security flag. Three clean starts, tested all four remote buttons from across the parking area, locked and unlocked at range.
He thought the whole car was bricked. It was a dead battery in a remote and a known GM quirk.

Emergency Saves, Real Reviews
Emergency saves, grateful customers
“My car keys were stolen on a cold evening and Nick drove all the way out to Santa Barbara. He got into my car, made a new key, and charged $100 less than another company. Friendly, skilled, trustworthy, and genuinely caring. Nick is a hero.”
“Tim is a hero. He programmed a master proximity key for a newer Volkswagen that multiple locksmiths refused to touch. He spent hours until late at night making sure every function worked perfectly. The skill level here is incredible.”
“Very professional and extremely affordable. The price was literally about three times cheaper than what my dealership quoted me. Fast service and no stress at all. Highly recommend.”
