A woman near Goleta Beach Park called me from the parking area off Sandspit Road. Her 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer cranked fine but would not start. Dash showed the SECURITY light flashing steady. She had already tried turning the key off and on about a dozen times.
Classic Passlock II failure. The sensor inside the ignition lock cylinder sends a resistance value to the body control module, BCM part number 15906895 on these GMT360 trucks. When that sensor drifts or the wiring corrodes, the BCM sees the wrong resistance and kills fuel. The engine cranks all day long, it just never fires.
I plugged into the OBD port and read the BCM. DTC B2960 stored, which is the Passlock sensor signal invalid code. Rather than replacing the whole lock cylinder assembly like the dealer would push, I ran the Passlock relearn right there. Key to ON, wait for the SECURITY light to go off after ten minutes, key off, repeat two more times. Three cycles total, about thirty minutes of just sitting there. Then a final key-off rest and a start.
Fired right up. She looked at the dash like she did not trust it yet.
While I was there I paired a fresh MYT3X6898B remote for her too. Lock, unlock, hatch release, all confirmed from twenty feet away. The whole visit took under forty-five minutes in a parking lot. The dealer had quoted her an appointment a week out and a lock cylinder replacement she did not need.
