Late call out near Channel Islands Beach in Oxnard. A long-haul trucker had pulled into a dark rest stop between loads, shut off his 2013 Dodge Journey, and it refused to restart. His next pickup was first thing in the morning, two hours north. No wiggle room.
He had already tried the obvious. Fresh CR2032, holding the fob against the start button, cycling the battery out and back in. Nothing. The EVIC just kept flashing "Key Fob Not Detected."
I got there around 10 pm. Popped the fob open on the tailgate and found the problem right away. The internal circuit board had a hairline crack near the battery terminal trace. New battery was making contact, but the board itself was toast. No amount of CR2032 swaps was going to fix that.
Here is where the WIN module helped me out. Because his vehicle still had the transponder code stored and I had a working VVDI2 on hand, I could read the Hitag2 data from the dead fob's chip and clone it into a new M3N-40821302 blank. Cut a fresh blade on the flip key, programmed the remote side through the OBD port, and tested every button plus push-to-start.
He was rolling again in under an hour. The dealer he called earlier had no same-day appointments and quoted him a multi-day wait for the fob alone. When you are stuck at a rest stop at night, business hours do not apply.
