Late call from a long-haul trucker stuck near the Conejo Valley Botanic Garden area in Thousand Oaks. His 2020 Dodge Journey would not restart. He had killed the engine at a rest stop between loads, and now the dash just sat there with "Key Fob Not Detected" and would not crank. His next pickup was first thing in the morning, two hours north.
Dealer was closed. The nearest one taking appointments couldn't fit him in until the following afternoon. He found EZ Car Keyz and called from the parking lot around 10 PM.
I got there and started with the obvious stuff. Swapped in a fresh CR2032. Nothing. Popped the fob shell open on the hood and found the issue right away. The circuit board inside the 68155686AB housing had a hairline crack near one of the battery contact traces. That board was done.
I pulled the transponder data from his dead fob using my programmer, cloned it into a new M3N-40821302 blank, cut the emergency blade to the CY24 keyway, and registered it to his RF Hub through the OBD port. Because the vehicle still had one recognized transponder code in memory from the dead fob's chip, I didn't need to run a full all-keys-lost reset, which saved real time.
Tested start, tested lock, unlock, remote start, and panic. Checked range from 30 feet out. Everything responded clean.
He was back on the highway in under an hour. When you are stuck at a rest stop at night with a schedule that does not bend, dealer hours do not matter. Someone picking up the phone does.
