That specific mismatch usually points to a door handle antenna or a body control module communication issue, not a bad key.

A few possibilities. First: hold the fob directly against the start button and try again. On a proximity system, if the fob's internal antenna is weak or the vehicle's receiver is having a moment, direct contact will often get the engine going as a workaround. That trick also tells you whether the fob is being read at all.

If direct contact works but normal proximity doesn't, the issue is likely signal range - either a fob antenna problem, interference in the area, or a vehicle-side receiver that needs attention. If direct contact does nothing, the vehicle isn't reading the fob at all, and that points to either a programming loss (rare but it happens after a dead battery or a battery disconnect on the vehicle) or a fault in the vehicle's security system.
