2011 Ford Fiesta
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Can you delete a lost or stolen Fiesta fob so it won't start my car anymore?

Yes. The way the Fiesta security system works, you can't selectively erase just one fob. It's all or nothing: wipe all enrolled fobs, then re-register only the keys you want authorized. So if you lost one fob but still have a working one, both get cleared and both get reprogrammed in the same session.

Q: Does my 2011 Fiesta smart key have a hidden emergency blade inside it?

It does. There's a small release button on the back of the fob. Press it and the metal blade slides out. That blade fits the driver door lock cylinder and gets you inside when the fob battery is dead or the car isn't responding. Once you're in, if the battery is the issue, a CR2032 is what goes in this fob. Swap it, reseat the battery so it's making clean contact, and test before assuming you need anything else done.

Q: My 2011 Fiesta shows a key-not-detected warning but the fob battery is fine. What's going on?

This comes up more than people expect on these. A fresh battery that's seated slightly off-center or resting against a bent contact clip can read fine on a multimeter but still drop out under the load the fob antenna actually pulls. Open the fob, look at the contact clips, and make sure the battery is sitting flat and centered before assuming the fob or the antenna is bad.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2011 Fiesta. Can I program it myself?

No. The Fiesta smart key system doesn't have a self-programming sequence you can run from the driver's seat. That type of onboard relearn only exists on older bladed key setups. A proximity fob needs to be enrolled through the diagnostic port with the right equipment. The fob you bought online is just hardware until that step happens.

2011 Ford Fiesta Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already in the Five Points area of Oxnard when the call came in, which worked out.

The owner of a 2011 Ford Fiesta had done the thing people do: searched for a locksmith, picked the ad at the top, and paid the price. Except the price he got quoted on the phone wasn't the price he paid when the tech left. And the key that tech programmed would start the car but the remote buttons did nothing. Lock, unlock, all dead. He'd been walking up and manually working the door handle for two weeks before he decided to find someone else.

He found me through Google Guaranteed and the first thing out of his mouth was asking how to verify I was licensed. That's a fair question and I respect it. I gave him my BSIS license number on the phone. He looked it up on the state site while we were still talking.

When I got to him, the issue was exactly what he described. The fob had been partially registered. The vehicle security system saw it well enough to allow a start, but the remote functions hadn't enrolled correctly. I connected my programmer, cleared the partial registration, and ran a clean full enrollment for his fob. Took about 25 minutes on site.

All three buttons came back. Start was clean. He tested it himself three or four times before he was satisfied, which is exactly what I want people to do.

The dealer quote he'd gotten before calling the first locksmith was more than I charged. The scam locksmith charged more than the dealer and left the job half done. He ended up paying me to fix what someone else broke, and my number was still less than what the dealer wanted from the start.

Ford Fiesta Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to handle all-keys-lost on my 2011 Ford Fiesta?▼

Call a mobile locksmith before you call the dealer. All-keys-lost on the Fiesta means erasing whatever fobs were previously enrolled and starting fresh, which requires diagnostic equipment either way. The dealer will factor in towing if the car won't move, OEM fob cost, and programming labor. A mobile locksmith comes to the car, handles the reset and enrollment on site, and doesn't add a towing line to the bill. The job runs roughly 30 to 40 minutes once I'm there.
