2019 Ford Fiesta
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How long will a replacement key last?

A properly programmed Smart Key on the 2019 Fiesta should last the life of the vehicle without any programming degradation. The pairing between the fob and the vehicle doesn't expire or wear out on its own. What actually fails over time is physical: button pads get soft and unresponsive, the fob housing cracks and lets in moisture, or the battery contact clips get weak from repeated swaps.

Q: What if my new key stops working after a few weeks?

Call us. Our work is covered under warranty. That said, when a key that was working fine suddenly throws a key-not-detected warning, the fob is usually the last place to look. A blown fuse in the body control circuit, a software state the vehicle got into, or a low-voltage condition in the car itself can all make a perfectly good fob appear dead. The vehicle has to be communicating correctly for any key to work, new or old.

Q: I lost both keys to my 2019 Fiesta. Can you still make a replacement without any working key?

Yes, all-keys-lost is a standard job. It does take longer than adding a spare when you have a working key, because the process involves clearing the existing key memory and registering the new fob from scratch using diagnostic equipment through the OBD port. There's no shortcut or onboard self-programming sequence for the Fiesta Smart Key system. You need the right tools.

Q: The door handle touch unlock stopped working but my fob buttons still lock and unlock the car. What's going on?

The fob is almost certainly fine. Passive entry through the door handle and active lock/unlock through the buttons are handled differently. If the buttons work but the handle touch doesn't respond, the issue is most likely on the door side: a dirty or failing capacitive sensor in the handle, a wiring issue at that door, or a software glitch in how the body control module is reading the sensor. Wipe the handle area down and test again.

2019 Ford Fiesta Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy parked near Wilson, over by the shopping center off Gonzales Road. He was standing outside his 2019 Fiesta in the afternoon heat, and the car wouldn't acknowledge his fob at all. The door handle wasn't responding, the key-not-detected warning was sitting on the dash, and he'd already done the one thing everyone does first: swapped the battery. Still nothing.

When I pulled up, I asked him to hold the fob flat against the start button and try. It started. That told me the fob's signal was weak but the transponder side was still alive. The battery he'd put in was a generic from a convenience store blister pack, and it was reading low voltage right out of the package.

I popped the fob open on my hood. The new battery was seated slightly off-center and one contact had a small bend that was keeping it from making full contact. Straightened the clip, pressed in a quality CR2032, snapped it closed.

Then I walked every function. Door handle touch unlock on both sides, the lock button, the other buttons, start confirmation from inside. Everything came back clean.

He'd been ready to call the dealer and wait a week for an appointment. He didn't need any of that. Took maybe twenty minutes from when I parked, and he saved a good chunk over what that service visit would have run.

Do you use OEM or aftermarket keys on Ford vehicles?▼

We use OEM-spec blanks verified to match the factory FCC ID and battery spec for your exact vehicle. This matters more than people expect. A blank that looks identical on the outside can still fail to pair correctly if the internal hardware doesn't match what the vehicle's security system is expecting. We've seen situations where a fob purchased online unlocks the doors fine but the vehicle never fully accepts it for start functions.
