Got a call from a woman in the Hidden Valley neighborhood in Santa Barbara. Her groceries were in the back of her 2010 Ford Transit Connect. It was July. The frozen stuff had maybe 30 minutes before it turned into soup.

Pulled PATS data, confirmed the 4D63 80-bit chip type and the key count registered to the PCM. Her KR55WK47899 remote head key had a dead CR2032 and the battery contact inside the shell had corroded green. The RF side was shot but the transponder chip itself still read fine.
Swapped her into a new 164-R8042 remote head key. Cut the blade to match, programmed the transponder through PATS, synced all three remote buttons. Tested lock, unlock, trunk release, and a clean engine start twice.
From her phone call to her engine running was 47 minutes. The dealer wanted a next-day appointment and a much bigger bill. Groceries survived. Sometimes the difference is just time.
