2015 Ford Transit Connect Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already drinking coffee in my van near the Hope Ranch turnoff when the call came in. Guy out in the Hope Ranch area, early morning, Transit Connect key fob had been acting up for a week and finally quit responding entirely.

He could still get in with the key blade, but the remote hadn't done anything in two days and now he was getting a key-not-detected warning on the dash.

He figured it was probably the battery. He was right, but only halfway.

When I got there I popped the key open on my tailgate. CR2032 inside was reading low, which explains the gradual fade on the remote range. Swapped it out, cleaned the contacts, seated it properly. Tested the remote. Lock and unlock came back. But the warning on the dash was still sitting there.

That part needed the diagnostic port. Connected up, found the vehicle security system had logged a fault from the low-voltage condition. Cleared it, cycled the ignition, confirmed the key was communicating cleanly. Walked every button. Everything working.

He watched the whole thing from about three feet away, which I like. Nothing to hide when the job is real.

He'd already called the dealer before he called me. They told him to bring it in, that it might need a new key programmed, possibly a full fob replacement. He was looking at dropping it off and waiting. I was done and gone before his dealer appointment would have even started, and he kept a good chunk of what he would have spent.
