Got a call at 6:45 in the morning from a guy in the Samarkand neighborhood in Santa Barbara. Construction worker. His shift started at 7 and his 2015 Transit Connect was sitting in the driveway doing nothing. Remote head key had been getting flaky all week, shorter range on the lock and unlock, then that morning it just quit. Engine cranked but killed itself after two seconds. Theft indicator on the dash staying solid. Classic PATS rejection.

Connected my Autel through the OBD-II port under the dash, pulled the PATS data off the PCM, and programmed a fresh 164-R8046 remote head key with a new 4D63 80-bit chip. Swapped in a CR2032 for the remote side. Tested all four buttons, lock, unlock, panic, and rear hatch. Cycled the ignition three times to confirm the theft light behaved.
Total hands-on time was maybe 20 minutes. I cut him a spare too so he would not end up here again.
He clocked in at 7:15. A dealer would have meant a tow, a wait for parts, and a missed day of work. He texted me that night saying thanks.
