A guy near Ventura Pier called me from his apartment complex. He had a 2015 Ford Transit cargo van he used for work, and his only key had just stopped turning in the ignition. He had already called Ford. They told him to tow it in, wait a couple days, and bring his registration plus photo ID before they would even order a key blank.

He did not have a couple days. He had deliveries that afternoon.

I pulled up about 25 minutes after his call. First thing I did was check his existing key blade under magnification. Two of the wafer cuts were visibly worn down, enough that the sidebar was hanging up inside the HU101 cylinder. That's what killed the turn. The lock itself was fine.

I used my Lishi HU101 pick and decoder on the driver door to read all ten wafer positions from the actual lock. Cut a fresh blade on my Condor XC-Mini right on site, matched to the decoded depths. Then I programmed the new 4D63 80-bit transponder through the OBD-II port. The PATS module ran its security access timer, about 10 minutes of just sitting there waiting, then accepted the new key ID.

Whole job, reading the lock, cutting, programming, took under 40 minutes. He watched me decode the wafers and finally understood why his hardware store copy from a year ago never worked right either.

He kept his delivery schedule. Never left the parking lot.
