2015 Ford Transit
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Do I need to tow my Transit to the dealer for a replacement key?

Not if you call us. Ford dealers will tell you to tow it in, show up with ID and proof of ownership, and wait while they sort out the cut. That process can stretch into the next business day depending on how backed up the service department is, and the tow cost comes out of your pocket on top of whatever the dealer charges for the key.

Q: What do I need to prove I own the vehicle?

A valid photo ID and proof of ownership, either your registration or your title. We also verify the VIN from the dashboard plate or the door jamb sticker on the van to confirm the key specs before we cut anything. That is the same standard a dealer would hold you to, but we do it at your location instead of a service counter.

Q: My Transit key turns hard and feels like it might snap. Is that a lock issue or a key issue?

Usually both, and they feed each other. A worn or poorly copied key accelerates wear inside the cylinder, and a worn cylinder chews up keys faster. On a 2015 Transit that sees daily commercial use, the door and ignition cylinders take a beating. If the key is turning stiff or you have to jiggle it to get it to turn, do not force it.

Q: Can a locksmith cut a key for a Transit without the original?

Yes. The lock on a 2015 Transit can be decoded directly, meaning the wafer positions inside the cylinder tell us the correct cut. We do not need the original key to produce an accurate replacement. This is the same method we use for all-keys-lost situations on these vans. The cut comes from the lock, not from tracing a worn key, so it comes out right the first time.

2015 Ford Transit Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked on Main Street in Downtown Ventura wrapping up another job when the call came in. Guy had a 2015 Ford Transit, cargo van, and his only key had snapped off in the door lock. Not inside the ignition, not lost somewhere, actually snapped off at the shoulder. Half the blade was sitting in the cylinder.

He had already called the dealer. They told him to tow it in, bring proof of ownership, and plan on waiting. He asked how long. They said probably the next business day. He was sitting in a parking structure trying to figure out how he was going to move a van that wouldn't open.

I told him I could be there in about fifteen minutes.

First thing was extracting what was left of the blade from the cylinder without damaging the wafers. Once that was clear, I could read the lock directly and map out the cut. I decoded the wafer positions, cut a new blade to match, and had the door opening inside forty minutes of pulling up.

He was back in business without a tow, without a next-business-day wait, and for a fraction of what the dealer wanted. He asked if I needed him to sign anything. I just needed his ID and registration, same as the dealer would have asked for, except we did the whole thing right there in the structure.

The broken key stub went in my parts bag. Happens more than people think on commercial vans that see daily use.

Ford Transit Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

I am locked out with no spare key. Can you come to me?▼

Yes. Call us and we come to wherever your 2015 Ford Transit is in Ventura. We carry the blanks and decoding tools for these vans on the truck, so there is no trip to a shop and no waiting on a parts order. The Transit lock can be decoded right at the cylinder, meaning we cut a working key from the lock itself even when you have nothing to hand us. No tow, no dealer visit, no borrowed ride home.
