2016 Ford Transit Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a woman in Ventura, over in Mission San Buenaventura, standing next to her 2016 Ford Transit with a key that wouldn't do anything. Remote dead. Blade turned the lock but the engine cranked and quit every time. Classic PATS rejection. The dash was throwing the theft light, solid and steady, which on these Transits means the system isn't reading the transponder at all.
She told me she'd been using that key for three years with no issues. Hadn't dropped it in water, hadn't run it through the wash. It just stopped one morning.
I pulled up, decoded the door cylinder, and cut a fresh blade on a new 164-R8046 blank with the 4D-63 80-bit chip. Connected my programmer to the OBD-II port under the dash, accessed the PATS module, and started the key learn. Ford's system kicked off its 10-minute security countdown. We stood in the shade and talked about her delivery route while it timed out.
Once the new key registered, I tested. Not just a start. I tested all four buttons on the remote head, walked 30 feet away and hit lock and unlock, started the van three times cold, checked that the old key was erased. The part she noticed was me standing at the back of the van pressing the hatch release button, then walking to the front and trying again. She said the last shop she went to for a house key just handed it over and said good luck.
