1997 Infiniti Q45 Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in Ventura, right near the Performing Arts Center, had just picked up a 1997 Q45 from a private seller. Clean second-gen Y33 body, low miles for the age, the 4.1L VH41DE running smooth. But it came with one key and no spare.
He called the Infiniti dealer first. They told him they'd need to order the key blank by VIN, wait a few days for it to come in, then schedule a service appointment for programming. He asked how much. When he heard the number, he went looking for another option.
I met him in the parking structure off California Street. His key was the standard NSN14 blade with the T5 transponder chip in the bow. No remote, no buttons, just the mechanical key and the chip. That's how the '97 Q45 came from the factory.
I cut a new NSN14 blank on my Condor, then cloned the T5 chip using my VVDI2. The NATS 1 system on these Y33 Q45s uses a fixed-code transponder, so cloning is the cleanest route. No PIN pulling needed, no messing with the NATS ECU behind the dash. Just read the working key's chip data and write it to the new one.
Tested it three times. Ignition on, engine fires, security light stays off. He drove away with two working keys, and that second key means if one ever goes missing, the next replacement is a simple clone instead of a full lockout situation.
